Remember SG in your WILL and TRUSTS

In drafting or revising your Will, the needs of your family should be your primary responsibility. However, there may also be an amount that can be allocated from your estate for charitable purposes and allow you to perpetuate a lifetime of giving.

Gifts to Station Gallery will ensure that art exhibitions and programs remain accessible to future generations of Whitby and Durham Region.

If you're ready to learn more about including Station Gallery in your Will or estate plans, please contact Judy Mead. Your privacy is important to us and all information will be kept confidential.

Bequest Options and Sample Wording

There are several options you might consider. You can specify a dollar amount, a specific property, a percentage of your estate, or the portion that remains after you have provided for your family. You may also name Station Gallery as a residual beneficiary in the event that others you have named do not survive you.

1. A specific amount of money or property

Station Gallery can be named in your Will to receive a specific amount of cash, or property such as an art collection, a home, parcel of land, etc.

Specific amount bequest
"I direct my Trustees to pay or transfer the sum of $… to Station Gallery aka Whitby Arts Inc."

Gift of real property
"I direct my Trustees to transfer and convey all my interest in real property (…description) to to Station Gallery aka Whitby Arts Inc."

2. Percentage of your estate

Distribution of your assets can be arranged on a percentage or share basis. The bequest then remains in the same proportion to each other, despite fluctuations in the value of your estate from time to time. This is an especially important concept in a time of stock market volatility.

"I direct my Trustees to pay or transfer….% of the residue of my estate to to Station Gallery aka Whitby Arts Inc."

3. Residual bequest

Whatever property remains in your estate after debts and testamentary expenses are paid, and after specific bequests under your will have been fulfilled, is known as the residue of your estate. You can leave all or part of the residue of your estate to Station Gallery under your Will.

"I direct my Trustees to pay or transfer the residue of my estate to Station Gallery aka Whitby Arts Inc."

4. Double-purpose bequest

A sum of money can be directed to be held in trust under a will. The income from such a trust can be paid to a spouse or other beneficiary and the capital of the trust can be paid to Station Gallery, upon the death of your spouse or other beneficiary. Wording will vary according to the trust agreement.

In Memory / In Honour Gifts

A Memorial gift is a way to express your thoughts and to let a bereaved family know that you're thinking of them during a difficult time.

An In Honour gift is a great way to recognize any special occasion, including birthdays, wedding anniversaries, new births, holiday wishes, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. It lets that special someone know that you're thinking of them and want to share in their happiness by making a contribution in their honour.

When you make a Memorial or In Honour gift to Station Gallery, the gallery will send the family or individual a card acknowledging your gift. The card identifies you, including name and address but does not identify your gift amount. A receipt is issued to you, the donor, for income tax purposes.

To make a Memorial or In Honour gift, please contact Anne Sims at 905-668-4185 or e-mail simsa@whitbystationgallery.com
